Making an entrance into the cosmetic industry, CBD products contain properties that are beneficial for our skin and hair. CBD is rich in anti-inflammatories and omega fats that can stimulate hair growth and skin health. CBD can help soothe and stop inflammation and irritation. Understanding what CBD can do for you may help you find an answer to an issue that you are struggling with or learn something that may help a friend.

What is CBD

Living in the 21st century, many people have heard of the words marijuana, hemp, cannabis, THC, or CBD. These words typically can be misunderstood and paired together as being the same and having the same effect. Sometimes they can be misconstrued as having the same effect as each other. Each is a different component that is used in different ways for separate purposes.

Looking at the components of the marijuana or hemp plant helps us understand what CBD is. We need to understand this before we dive into CBD benefits for skin and hair care. THC and CBD are compounds extracted from a plant but can be confused about what purpose they are used for.

What are THC and CBD?

THC is what people will use to get the ‘high’ that is associated with someone doing weed. It is extracted from the marijuana plant. CBD comes from the hemp plant but can come from the marijuana plant as well. CBD has no psychoactive properties, meaning that it can not make you ‘high’.

For those who want to avoid THC altogether, it is recommended to use products from the hemp plant. Using CBD in skincare or haircare will not make a person ‘high’.

CBD Benefits for Skin

Containing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, CBD is a magical product for skincare. CBD helps fight off wrinkles, signs of aging, and skin conditions such as acne and eczema.

1. CBD Benefits for Wrinkles and Anti-aging

Due to having high antioxidants, CBD skin products help with wrinkles. It does this by counteracting the damage that free radicals do to our skin. These free radicals are fumes, UV light, chemicals, gases, and other environmental elements. Free radicals break down the collagen in our skin.CBD improves the body’s production of collagen making our skin and muscles tighter and firmer.

Along with that, CBD improves facial scars and skin discoloration. These skin discolorations can be age or sunspots. It does this by boosting collagen levels and stimulating the healing process by cellular regeneration.

2. CBD Benefits for Acne and Other Skin Conditions

With its anti-inflammatory properties, CBD helps with skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, and dry or itchy skin. CBD helps soothe the skin and reduces the appearance of irritation that comes with some skin conditions. These products calm your skin allowing it to heal and not irritate you as much.

CBD products are gentle and perfect for sensitive skin types. Bryan Levandowski mentions that CBD products are also a solution for those who are allergic to other anti-acne ingredients.

CBD helps adjust how your skin glands secrete sebum. Sometimes our glands will produce too much sebum. When this waxy, natural oil is produced too much, it will start to clog your pores creating zits and acne. CBD regulates sebum so that your skin does not break out.

CBD Benefits for Hair

You can find CBD in hair products such as shampoos, hair oils, hair serums, and other products as well. CBD can be applied directly to your head, and doing so is the most effective way to help with specific hair problems like dry scalp and dandruff.

1. CBD Benefits for Hair Growth

Many factors come into play with the topic of hair. The worry of hair loss, thinning, and bald spots can play a part at any stage of life. Typically these problems happen because nutrients are not going to your hair as they should. CBD can help people solve these issues.

Interacting with the endocannabinoid system, CBD will elevate cerebral blood circulation. This increases the blood flow resulting in nutrients reaching your hair. Your blood increasing the circulation in your hair follicles encourages your hair to grow and become strong. This also detoxes the hair of harmful chemicals deposits to encourage growth.

CBD products also work by sealing in the moisture in your hair and nourishing the cuticles. It contains antioxidants and omega fatty acids. Due to these properties, CBD products help repair damaged hair and create strong and healthy hair.

2. CBD Benefits for Dry Scalp and Dandruff

Due to CBD being able to help regulate and influence our natural oil and sebum levels, it can help reduce some of the scalp problems that people struggle with every day. These problems are dandruff and dry scalp.

Containing antimicrobial properties, CBD assists in reducing the risk of scalp infections which lead to dandruff. It heals the flaky patches on a person’s scalp and encourages better scalp health.

The anti-inflammatory aid soothes the scalp and helps to calm inflammation. This aid can help when a person has a scalp infection-causing dandruff.

Scientists and cosmetic companies are still learning and experimenting with CBD products. Some products may not be the perfect match for you, and if so, keep searching for your perfect match. Using CBD products in your skin or hair care routine can promote beautiful and healthy skin and hair. The products made with CBD can help you feel comfortable and happy in your own body.

    1. Hello Joy,

Thank you for your question. I reached out to Vegamour’s customer service. Vegamour is a company that sells CBD products for skin and hair. They recommend looking for products like theirs which are vegan-certified, natural, cruelty-free, and do not contain hormones or hormone analogs. The hormones or hormone analogs are what makes some serums not safe for use by pregnant or breastfeeding women.

However, I and Vegamour are not medical professionals and recommend that someone who is pregnant or nursing to review the ingredients list with her doctor just to be absolutely sure.

      Callie Joy
